A tribute to "Los Chalchaleros"

Thanks to my wife and father-in-law, I was reintroduced to the beautiful music created by the Argentinian folk group known as Los Chalchaleros.

Curious about their history, I Googled them found some interesting tidbits. Originally from the province of Salta, four youngsters in the Sociedad Rural (Victor Jose "Choco" Zambrano, Carlos Franco "Pelusa" Sosa, Aldo "El Chivo" Saravia, & Juan Carlos "El Gordo" Saravia) formed this folkloric music group late in 1947. They would practice and eventually make their first public appearance in Teatro Alberdi on June 16, 1948.

Los Chalchaleros would go on to make 46 records and tour the globe many times over. This accoustic ensemble retired in 2004, 56 years after that first performance in Salta.

Click here to catch more footage of their final concert, as well as other videos from these memorable musicians.

Para nuestros amigos que hablan espaƱol, visiten el sitio oficial de Los Chalchaleros para ver mas informacion sobre este gran conjunto.
